Health, Safety

PrettyScary coverns Toxins in Childrens Face Paint Be Cautious This Halloween!Campaign for Safe Cosmetics just released a new online summary and an in-depth report about children’s face paints. Pretty scary stuff!

It revealed that some children’s face paints contains lead, a neurotoxin, as well as nickel, cobalt and chromium, which can cause lifelong skin sensitization and contact dermatitis.

Even more terrifying is that these metals were not listed on the products’ ingredient labels. Some of the products tested even had misleading claims like “hypoallergenic” and “FDA compliant”, making it tough for parents to make an informed decision. Experts say there is no safe level of lead exposure for children and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that parents avoid using cosmetics on their children that could be contaminated with lead.

There actually is a safe face paint. It is snazaroo it is a product that I found a while ago it is actually the only non-toxic face paint that I have found. As a face painter myself having a product that is safe and wonderful to use is essential. If an artist is using face paint, you can always ask, do you use snazaroo? If not you might want to not have your child take part. Remember the Tin man died from lead poising in his face paint and most geisha’s have a life long skin issues from the paint they use to whiten their faces. Sorry this isn’t in time for Halloween..
